How to Save on Opzelura: Coupons & Other Assistance Programs

Last Updated on June 25, 2025

Opzelura is a promising topical treatment for conditions like eczema and vitiligo. But for many patients, getting access to it comes with more than a prescription. Cost, insurance complications, and eligibility rules can all get in the way.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed trying to figure it all out, you’re not alone. At NeedyMeds, we help people navigate these challenges every day. In this blog, we’ll walk you through two key programs that can make Opzelura more affordable.

What is Opzelura?

Opzelura (ruxolitinib) cream 1.5% is a topical medication used to treat:

  • Mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in people 12 and older who are not immunocompromised
  • Nonsegmental vitiligo in adults and children 12 and older

It works by targeting part of the immune system that causes inflammation and pigment loss. Because it’s a newer prescription treatment with a unique mechanism of action, the price can be high if you’re paying out of pocket or if your insurance doesn’t fully cover it.

Why is opzelura so expensive?

Opzelura’s high cost is closely tied to patent protections that limit competition. Incyte, the manufacturer, holds several patents covering the drug’s formulation and uses. According to public data, none of the patents have expired yet. The earliest expiration dates start in December 2026, while others run as long as May 2041.

These patents prevent generic manufacturers from producing lower-cost alternatives. As long as these protections remain in place, Incyte is the only company allowed to sell Opzelura. That exclusivity keeps prices high.

Fortunately, the manufacturer offers assistance programs to help offset the cost for patients.

Opzelura Copay Savings Card

If you have private (commercial) insurance, you may be able to use the Opzelura Copay Savings Card to reduce your out-of-pocket cost. If your insurance covers the drug, you might pay as little as $0 per tube.

To qualify:

  • You must have commercial insurance and not be enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or another government program
  • You can’t use the card if you’re uninsured or paying cash
  • Your insurance plan must allow the use of manufacturer savings cards

Some patients whose insurance doesn’t cover Opzelura at all can still use the card to pay a flat $35 per prescription, but only at select pharmacies. If you’re enrolled in a copay maximizer or accumulator program, the value of the savings card may be limited.

IncyteCARES Patient Assistance Program

If you’re uninsured or have Medicare Part D and still can’t afford Opzelura, you may be eligible to get the medication for free through the IncyteCARES for Opzelura Patient Assistance Program.

You may qualify if:

  • You don’t have prescription insurance, or you have Medicare Part D and can’t afford your out-of-pocket costs
  • You have a valid prescription for Opzelura for eczema or vitiligo
  • Your household income is at or below 400 percent of the federal poverty level (for example, $62,600 for a single person or $84,600 for two people in 2025). Use our FPL Calculator to calculate your income to see if you qualify.

Approved patients receive their medication from the program’s pharmacy. Uninsured patients are enrolled for 12 months. Those with Medicare Part D are enrolled for the calendar year and must reapply annually.

Final thoughts

Whether you’re dealing with eczema or vitiligo, Opzelura can be a game-changing treatment. But the cost shouldn’t stop you from getting the care you need.

Between the copay savings card and the patient assistance program, there are real options to lower or even eliminate the price. If you’re not sure which program is right for you, NeedyMeds can help.
