How One Family Honors Their Father by Supporting NeedyMeds

Last Updated on June 25, 2025

Across the country, people face tough decisions every day. Some skip groceries to pay for prescriptions. Others put off refilling medications because they simply can’t afford them. For families caring for children, aging parents, or loved ones with chronic illnesses, the rising cost of healthcare can feel overwhelming and isolating.

NeedyMeds is here to help. We’re a nonprofit that connects people to healthcare savings programs at no cost and without requiring personal information. But our work is only possible because of the people who believe in the importance of affordable care. One such supporter is a family inspired by the compassion of their late father, a pharmacist who saw the challenges his patients faced.

Phil Greer: A Pharmacist Who Never Stopped Caring

Phil Greer (1934–2010) spent his life helping others through his work as a pharmacist. He owned Ami Drug in Manhattan, New York, and later worked in larger retail pharmacies after relocating to Phoenix, Arizona. Phil wasn’t just filling prescriptions. He was the kind of pharmacist who would open his store after hours to help a sick child or spend extra time answering questions about medications and treatments.

Throughout his career, one thing never sat right with him: seeing people walk away without the medicine they needed because they couldn’t afford it. Phil did what he could, offering help when possible, but the larger issue remained unsolved.

A Family’s Way of Giving Back

After Phil passed away in 2010, his children wanted to honor the values he lived by. That search led them to NeedyMeds.

Amy Greer and Mark Murphy, Ida Greer, Andy and Allison Greer, and Lawrence and Emily Greer chose to support NeedyMeds through donations. Their contributions not only reflect Phil’s dedication to helping others but also allow thousands of people to get the support they need today.

“Supporting NeedyMeds is a very meaningful way for us to honor our dad,” says Amy Greer. “We believe he would have loved what this organization does and what it stands for.”
